Greg Agnew was born and raised in Westwood, Massachusetts. He is a second-generation graduate of Westwood High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Assumption College in Worcester, MA in May of 2009. Greg’s family has been living in Westwood since 1969.
During Greg’s time as a student at WHS, he developed his love for politics at an early age, by serving on the both the school’s Legislative Council and the Site Council (including several sub-committees). Additionally, Greg spent some of his time as a member of the Mock Trial, and was instrumental in coordinating the move of Westwood’s sporting memorabilia and archives to the new High School in 2005.
After High School, Greg attended Assumption College in Worcester, MA, and served on the Student Senate, and as the online editor for the College’s Newspaper, Le Provocateur. As a student, Greg graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, one of only 37 students to do so in four years at the College. As a student, Greg published many influential position papers concerning the political climate in America, the Presidency, and the controversial decisions that led to acquisition of land overseas.
Upon graduation from College, Greg was faced with one of the worst economic climates in our country’s history, and consequently, it was very difficult to find employment. Luckily, Greg was able to find a position as a Civil Process Clerk at the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, where he handled the processing of court documents, intended to be served to those who had a multitude of Civil infractions. Greg worked tirelessly, along with three Sheriff’s Deputies, to ensure that these persons were properly brought into custody for a fair trial.
During Greg’s time at the WCSO, he moved into the Agricultural sector of our economy, by starting his own small business, a venture some questioned during this harsh economic climate. In November of 2009, the Dedham Square Country Store was founded, a retail Country Market that sells only fresh, locally grown and produced foods and beverages.
In November of 2010, after managing the Campaign for Independent Congressional Candidate Phil Dunkelbarger, Greg was asked to become part of the staff at Dedham TV, where he had began hosting, “The Political Edge” three years before. As Associate Producer of Marketing & Government Relations at Dedham TV, Greg is charged with the responsibility of developing business relationships with the local Dedham Community, encouraging new sponsorship and programming, and managing the political production and development of the studio.
Formerly, Greg was employed at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, MA as a Research Study Coordinator. During Greg’s time at Lahey, he was responsible for research foundations under the direction of several physicians. During his Sophomore year in College, Greg managed the Campaign of Dottie Powers, who currently serves as Westwood’s Town Clerk. For the better part of two years, Greg also worked at the Schortmann Insurance Agency, Inc. in Dedham, MA as a consultant to their IT and Customer Relations Departments.
As a volunteer within the community, Greg has, and continues to hold various positions on Boards, Committees, and Community Groups that have an impact on the success and strength of our town:
- Coach; Westwood Little League – Fall Ball (2009-Present)
- Member; Westwood Economic Development Advisory Board (2008-Present)
